Breaking News: Xingang Group Participates in the Strategic Research & Consultancy Project on Development Path of New Quality Productivity for Forestry Engineering Approved Jointly by Chinese Academy of Engineering and NSFC

The kick-off meeting of the CAE strategic research project Research on Development Path of New Quality Productivity for Forestry Engineering toward 2040 was successfully held at Northeast Forestry University on February 23, 2025. Hosted online and offline, the project is headed by Academician Li Jian from Northeast Forestry University. Attendees included Academician Zhang Shougong (Director of the Agricultural Division of CAE), Academician Wu Yiqiang, Huang Yong (Director of the Office of CAE Agricultural Division), Liu Shouxin and Yu Haipeng (Vice Presidents of Northeast Forestry University). The meeting was presided over by Chu Fuxiang from Chinese Academy of Forestry. As a core enterprise member of the project team, Xingang Group was represented by Chairman Wei Xiaoxin and President Wei Ziming.

Focused on analyzing the formation path of new quality productivity in forestry engineering, the project puts forward development directions spanning fundamental and applied research, explores the integrated reform of education, science & technology and talent cultivation, and compiles the technical roadmap and fundamental research layout proposals for forestry engineering in the next 5–20 years. It targets to upgrade domestic wood industry’s position in global industrial division via technological innovation and foster emerging industries of eco-friendly green materials.

At the launch conference, Academician Li Jian delivered a speech on project objectives and implementation routes. He noted the research team would absorb insights from experts and take fostering new quality productivity as a core guideline for forestry engineering and wood-based panel industry development. Supported by innovations in basic theories, core technologies and institutional mechanisms, cross-field collaborative research will fuel breakthrough progress across the sector.

For technical R&D, Academician Li highlighted industry-university collaboration with leading manufacturers exemplified by Xingang Group in two key fields:

  1. R&D of bionic eco-friendly adhesives & application of bionic refined decorative panels: Upgrade environmentally-safe adhesives via bionic technology to achieve zero-pollution and high-performance production of wood-based panels.
  2. Technical breakthrough of ultra-thin fiberboard: Xingang has realized mass production of 0.6–0.8mm ultra-thin fiberboard with world-leading technology, production capacity and economic benefits; further process optimization will strengthen its global competitive edge.

Chairman Wei Xiaoxin remarked that boosting new quality productivity is an inevitable trend for the whole industry. Adhering to technology-driven innovation for years, Xingang has cultivated new growth drivers, emerging business forms and industrial sectors to underpin high-quality development and lead industrial upgrading. Going forward, Xingang will cooperate with all partners to advance green low-carbon development and facilitate high-quality progress of forestry engineering to fulfill the 2040 strategic goals.
